State-space models are a useful way to represent fish tracks. The Kalman filter can be used to estimate the movement parameters of the state-space model and the observational errors in electronic tags. The method has been applied to several species of marine animals tracked with different types of electronic tags. The computer programs for this model and electronic tagging data are freely available on the PFRP web site.
